Friends of the Library – English as a Second Language

The Library offers an ongoing E.S.L. Program which was established in 2003. The sessions, which are free of charge provide English as a second language instruction for area adults. Local residents, who serve as tutors, teach foreign born adults on a one-to-one or small group basis, to read and write English. All groups meet at the library at prearranged times. Applications and information can be obtained at the library circ. desk. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a tutor or register for lessons, can leave a message for Rosemarie Manganaro, E.S.L. Manager.

There will be a drop-in conversation class for current E.S.L. students or for anyone who is interested in improving their conversational English. We continue to offer a course to prepare eligible individuals for the U.S. Citizenship test. This course will prepare you for all parts of the test: speaking, reading, writing and civics–US history and government. Class times to be announced. Please register at the circulation desk.
