Borrow a Book Bundle
Book Bundles are 3 chidren's books on one topic for specific age groups. Stop by and borrow one!

The Children’s dept. has four new Kindle Fires with Kindle FreeTime installed. FreeTime is loaded with age appropriate books, games, educational apps, movies and TV shows. These devices loan out for one week at a time and must be checked out by a parent or guardian.

All children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Join us for unstructured play, circle time, rhymes, songs and stories and more! Drop-in playtime is limited to USR cardholders.

Preschool “Music and Movement”
for ages 3–5 with a caregiver
Thursdays • 3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
January 26 – April 6
This fun, energetic story hour will have little ones stretching, dancing, singing and laughing while also reading stories and learning about books. Come in your most comfortable clothes and be ready to read n’ rock!

Chess Club
4th–7th Grade on Mondays at 3:15–4:15 pm
1st–3rd Grade on Mondays at 4:30–5:30 pm
January 23 – March 20 • no class 2/20
Chess is a cool game that teaches valuable life skills like planning, problem solving and focus. It is also a great hobby that lasts a lifetime! These classes are fun, interactive and everyone improves. Fee: $80 per student. Classes are taught by the instructors at Brainyak Kid.

Fitness & Zumba
for Grade K and up with or without an adult caregiver.
Tuesday @ 3:30pm • March 21 and April 25
Maria Russo (East Rutherford Library) and Esperanza Pacheco (Fort Lee Library) are “The Dancing Librarians”. As certified
Zumba instructors, not only can they share their knowledge of books and reading, but they will bring a dance party to our library too! Whether you are a beginner or not, this class is for you. So, get ready to shake it! Registration is required.

Tech Tuesday STEM Club
for Grade K and up
Tuesday @ 3:30pm - 4:15pm • February 28 and March 28
Children will improve their problem solving skills while having fun trying out various STEM technologies such as robots, circuits, mazes and more. Registration is required.

Non-Fiction Book Club
Tuesdays • March 7 and April 4
K–1st Grade @ 3:15pm–4 pm
2nd–3rd Grade @ 4:15pm–5 pm
Read and discuss a non-fiction book on a new topic, engage in fun activities related to the book. Registration is required.

LEGO® Club
Tuesdays @ 4:30pm–5:15 pm • March 14 and April 18
Grades K and up.
Lego® Man Michael Bader, who has been featured on CBS News, will lead a free build and challenge each week. All Legos® are provided. Registration is required.

Maker Day at the Upper Saddle River Library is a time to embrace the DIY spirit. It’s a time for creativity, exploration, creating, building… Making!

You’ll discover hands-on activities, make-and-takes and demonstrations throughout the library, giving you the chance to learn more about everything from Snap Circuits to lace making to Ozobots. Check out this year’s line-up of amazing makers and activities:

Join us for a Family Event National Read-a-thon Day
Sunday, April 23rd • 1:00–4:30 pm • Lunch is provided

Come celebrate this day at the USR Library! This family event will be held from 1:00pm–4:30 pm. Sign-in will begin at 1:00 pm when pizza will be served. Children and their families can read for three fortyfive minute sessions with fifteen minute breaks inbetween. Participants will receive a prize and snacks after each session. If you have completed all three sessions, you are eligible for the grand prize which will be given out at the end of the day.

This program is for all ages and families are encouraged to attend and read together! The library will be designated a ‘READ ONLY’ space on this day. Sponsored by the JCO of Northern Bergen County.

In person registration is required, and will begin on February 13 at 9:30am

Miss Humblebee’s Academy is a fun, interactive, and award-winning, online kindergarten-readiness learning solution for children ages 3 to 6. With hundreds of lessons in Math, Science and Social Studies, Language and Literacy, Art, and Music, the curriculum increases in difficulty as the user progresses through the program. Miss Humblebee’s Academy assess cognitive skills at regular intervals for measurable improvement toward kindergarten readiness and offers a developmental observation checklist allowing parents to review and record social and emotional growth as an additional condition of preparedness. Parents can track their child’s learning outcomes through weekly progress reports that are emailed and available online 24/7. Miss Humblebee’s Academy can be accessed at the library, home, or on-the-go via smart phones, iPads, and tablets. Approximately twenty percent of the curriculum is available offline in the form of printables and practice worksheets.

Fun Apps


Math vs. Zombies
- Kids can practice math skills from basic operations through multi-digit multiplication and division in a series of entertaining worlds while being challenged by approaching zombie cartoon characters. The difficulty levels make this game appealing to kids from first grade through sixth, The app is accessible by nonreaders and intuitive to play.


Swift Playgrounds -This ipad only app teaches kids ages 9+ to code using the programming language of Swift. The puzzles and challenges are a fun way for kids to learn key computational thinking skills while also developing critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

Rory's Story Cubes
Ages 7 and Up. Rory's Story Cubes is the app version of an award-winning dice game that encourages storytelling and creativity. Shake the device to roll nine dice. Each die has a simple picture on it, and players use the images to create stories. Stories can be created individually or as a group. This is a great app to be used at bedtime, in the car or anytime kids want to get creative!



Animatch: Animal Pairs and Sounds Matching Game
Mentioned in The NY Times as a 'Great game to bring along with traveling kids', this game uses such adorable animal graphics and sounds that children won't even notice that they are developing concentration, memory, and cognitive skills, as well as learning what sounds different animals make.
