About the Friends
As we have for over 50 years, The Friends of the Library continue to work hard to fundraise to meet the needs of the Library “Wish List,” and fund ongoing services and programs on an annual basis. Our monthly Book Sales, our main source of income in addition to annual donations, bring book lovers from all over the county.
Last year, the Friends donations totaled over $20,000 which included the two new glass study rooms in the Adult section, funding for the Children’s Summer Reading Program and Events, Museum Key and Passes to the American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Guggenheim Museum, Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of the Moving Image, New York Historical Society, Storm King Arts Center, and Brainfuse LTD which offers online tutoring and job and career assistance, Mango Languages, Consumer Reports Subscription, Kindle Title and Device Purchases for patron use, and Maintenance of the Children’s Room Fish Tank. We also co-sponsor with Allendale an annual Award to a graduating Highlands Senior with a love of libraries.
The charitable outreach of the Friends is also wider than just our community. We donate books to many sources. Among them are Zion Lutheran Church in Saddle River, The Purple Heart. Breast Cancer Survivors, Summit Oaks Hospital, The Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center, and local nursery schools.
Please consider joining us! All are welcome to become a Friend—either as an active member or as a financial supporter through an annual membership donation. Working together, we can continue to make a difference for our library!
