How do I get a library card at the Upper Saddle River Library?

Anyone who lives or pays property taxes in Upper Saddle River is eligible for a free library card through the BCCLS network.

  • You can start the process online by filling out your information here.
  • Visit the Circulation Desk in person with proof of eligibility (e.g., driver’s license, utility bill, school ID, or tax document) to complete the registration process.
  • Children’s library cards require a parent/guardian to provide proof of eligibility.
  • All Upper Saddle River library cards provide access to books, media, and digital resources (Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, etc.). Card holders can browse the catalog, place holds, access eContent, and more. Quick links: Browse the Catalog | Your Library Card info →
  • Adult card holders (18+) provide additional access to museum passes, hotspots, and more.
  • Non-residents who work in Upper Saddle River are eligible for a free courtesy card. Non-resident students who attend school in Upper Saddle River may also be eligible for a free courtesy card.

What are the library’s hours? 

Regular hours at the Upper Saddle River Public Library (245 Lake Street) are:

  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Sunday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM 

Summer Hours: The Library is closed on Sunday from Memorial Day to through Labor Day

Is the library fine-free? What happens if items are damaged or lost? 

Yes, the Upper Saddle River Library is fine-free for overdue Upper Saddle River-owned books and media.

Note: Museum passes, hotspots, e-readers, and Library of Things items are subject to fines if late. For full details, see our Fine Free FAQs.

Materials borrowed from other libraries in the BCCLS consortium may still have overdue fees. 

Fines are assessed for damaged or lost materials. Patrons will be billed for the replacement cost of damaged or lost items. Borrowing privileges may be suspended until fines are paid.

How do I reserve a study room?

  • Study rooms can be reserved online or in person at the Library’s circulation desk. Rooms are available for individuals or small groups. Check availability and book via the library’s reservation system.

How do I reserve a meeting room?

  • Reserve meeting rooms online for community organizations. Check availability and book via the library’s reservation system. 

How do I borrow a museum pass or use the Library of Things?

  • Museum Passes: Adult cardholders (18+) in good standing can borrow passes for various museums (up to 2–3 days). Reserve via Museum Key or call 201-327-2583. Most are free; the American Museum of Natural History is $5/ticket (limit 4 per household/year). Late returns incur $25/day fines.
  • Library of Things: Adult cardholders (18+) in good standing can borrow unique items such as tools, board games, lawn games, tech, and more. Check the Library’s website for more information about placing holds, loan periods, and late fees.
